Go check out www.thehubcollective.org

We, The Hub; a collective of cycling enthusiasts and cycling commuters, are constructing our website, www.thehubcollective.org. We do not have much content right now but we are really coming along on the overarching infrastructure.

Some of the features we are planning to provide on the website are:
1) News - news about The Hub and local, regional, and national news relevant to the collective

2) Event Calendar - calendar of events comprised of our events and local, regional, and national events relevant to the collective. Any registered member can submit an event. Events will be monitored and deleted if not applicable.

3) Blog - any registered member of the collective can choose to maintain a blog.

4) Forums - any registered member of the collective can submit forum entries. The forum will be the main facilitator for collaborative project/program idea conception.

5) Project Incubator - when a collective member or collaboration of members form an idea for a project or program with community benefit she can submit this project to the Project Incubation area. Once an idea has been fully formed it may be submitted for vote by collective members. Ideas will be selected for project execution based on merit and collective votes. This concept has been coined "meritocracy" by open source software development communities. We think it will work for community good and service projects as well.

6) Fayetteville Multi-use Trail System interactive maps - we are constructing GoogleMap overlays of all of the implemented trails in the Fayetteville Trail System. We are starting with Scull Creek Trail and Mud Creek Trail. These maps will provide mileage markers, trail feature markers, cycling-friendly local business markers, and trail condition markers for trail features proned to flooding. We hope to expand this feature to include all trails within Northwest Arkansas!

7) Daily Trail Conditions Report - the Hub collective members will provide trail condition reports for each implemented trail in the Fayetteville Trail System. We will start with the Scull Creek Trail and then provide this info for all other trails. We hope to expand this feature to include all of Northwest Arkansas!

There are a few other features I am sure that I have forget to mention but these are the biggies. In the future we hope that other collective members will bring some website feature ideas to the table and help us implement them. After all our overarching goal is to make The Hub a real collective effort in which all members efforts and ideas are heard and embraced!

So when you have some time go check out www.thehubcollective.org. While you are at it register to be a member of this collective. Registration is free and only requires your name and a valid email address. We will never sell your info and we will never ask for any more personal info ever!

Have a wonderful day! Get out and bike!

Q9: What is "The Hub"?
We (Randy Kehne, Ryan Craig, Melissa Opela, and others to be named later) are working towards forming a not-for-profit organization we are currently calling "The Hub". Some of our goals are:
(1) promoting the bicycle as a viable, sustainable, alternative transportation option in Fayetteville and the rest of NWA.
(2) educating community members about Fayetteville's multi-use trail system and bicycle friendly routes
(3) promoting and participating in positive community activism (such as adopting a trail)
(4) championing improvements in bicycle-friendly infrastructure (such as increasing the availability of secure bicycle parking racks around Fayetteville)
(5) providing a family-friendly community bicycle recyclery and collective
(6) donating repaired, recycled bicycles through various programs
Our goals are not set in stone as we are only in the intial stages of organization. We are always open to suggestions!
